Fruit Set: When the Vineyard Begins to Tell This Year’s Story

The beginning of fruit set marks a transitional yet crucial phase in the vineyard’s annual cycle. It’s the time when the first signs of harvest quietly emerge — and the grower is called to read them carefully.

Ousyra Winery – Organic viticulture in constant dialogue with nature

On the island of Syros, in the heart of the Cyclades, Ousyra Winery we closely monitor every shift in the vineyard. For this reason, Sotiria, is currently on-site for a full inspection.

What we’re observing right now:

General vine health and vigor: We assess the balance of vegetation and the plants’ behavior after flowering.

Targeted interventions where needed: Certain vines receive careful shoot selection to maintain the ideal canopy.

On young vines (2–4 years old): We evaluate training progress and make necessary adjustments.

On new plantings: We track establishment success and the first signs of growth.

Organic viticulture: a practice of observation

In organic farming, we don’t rely on standard solutions. We work with what we see, sense, and interpret. Observation is our most powerful tool. Only through continuous monitoring can we prevent disease, nutrient imbalances, or stress — and act accordingly before issues escalate.

That’s why each vineyard visit is far more than a routine inspection. It’s an ongoing dialogue with the land, a practice of care and responsibility.

From nutrition to plant protection

At the end of each site visit, we update our cultivation guidelines:

We recommend natural plant-boosting methods

We adjust nutrition to meet the needs of each individual vineyard

We schedule gentle protective measures, always in line with organic principles

The road to this year’s harvest

We follow the vineyard’s rhythm with consistency, attentiveness, and care. For us, each season is a new chapter in the harvest story — one written slowly and intentionally, in tune with the plant’s vitality and the unique land that shapes it.
