Palies Rizes (Old Roots)

When history is born in the soil..

We are transported to Nemea. There, a rare vineyard over 110 years old was discovered, hosting ungrafted Agiorgitiko vines planted above ancient archaeological remains. This vineyard was never uprooted, thus its history is already written into the land and its roots.

Palies Rizes label is born from this unique condition. It is the result of a collaboration between Kyros Melas and Panos Zoumboulis for La Tour Melas, a partnership that begins in the vineyard and reaches the bottle, with shared vision and shared responsibility.

The revival of the vineyard began in 2013, with practices that resemble haute couture viticulture: handcrafted work, targeted interventions, and absolute attention to detail. The same approach continues in winemaking, aiming for the pure expression of the raw material and the place.

Production is small, the grapes naturally low-yielding and highly concentrated. The wine that emerges is deep, layered, and long-lasting. A result that shows what a historic, ungrafted vineyard can offer when treated with knowledge and respect.
